Animated Tutorials

Hi everyone.
As you have noticed I am now writing animated tutorials.
I would like to thank the amazing Artist and designers for their gorgeous creations to play with.
My tutorials are written using PSP and Animation shop but there is a difference as I mostly use the .psd file for the animation and sometimes, but not often, I will use the mng file. My tutorials are very lengthy. You can always do just the tag and save it as a pspimage file and come back and try the animation part later. If you have any questions you can find me on Facebook.

Have fun!!

I have written permission from Engelshen's Crazy Fantasy World. to use their FTU kits in my tutorials.

Midnight Princess

This tutorial was written by me on June 3, 2020. The results are of my own imagination.  Any resemblance to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

Please DO NOT claim this tutorial as your own.

This was written assuming you have a working knowledge of PSP.

Please keep in mind that I write the tutorial as I am creating it.

Sometimes I may not explain properly where to place things so please see my example if you are ever in doubt :)

Supplies needed

I am using PSP 2018 but this tutorial should work with any version.

Font of choice for your name.

Drop shadow of choice.

Vivienne's Paintbox has awesome drop shadow settings that I use a lot.  You can find the settings here and check out her awesome tutorials :)

Anytime you resize an element or tube you should sharpen it.  Go to adjust, sharpness, sharpen.

Let's get started.

Remember to save your tag often in case psp crashes.  I always save my tags as a pspimage.  It keeps all the layers and if you make tags for others you will always have the template.

Open a new 750x800 transparent image.  We will resize later.

Add a new layer and flood fill with white.

Open element 54, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 80% and sharpen.

Open element 70, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 70% and sharpen.

Open element 93, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 75% and sharpen.

Open element 13, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Move to the left.

Open element 96, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 60% and sharpen.  Move down slightly.  Using your magic wand, click inside the frame.  Selections, modify, expand by 5.  Add a new raster layer and move it under the frame layer.  Open paper of choice.  I am using paper 8, copy and close the original.  Select the new raster layer, edit, paste into selections, select none and drop shadow the frame.

Open element 85, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Move to the bottom center.

Open element 2, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 50%, sharpen and drop shadow.  Move to the bottom right of the frame.  Duplicate.  Select the water layer under the duplicate.  Image, resize 90% and move up.

Open element 21, copy and close the original.  Select the water layer and paste.  Resize 50%, sharpen and drop shadow.  Move to the bottom right of the frame.

Open element 60, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 40%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move to the bottom right of the jug.

Copy your tube.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 25%, sharpen and drop shadow.  See mine for placement.

Open element 91, copy and close the original.  Select the pink tree layer and paste.  Resize 70%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move to the right so it is behind the jug.

Open element 10, copy and close the original.  Select the frame layer and paste.  Resize 60%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move to the right so it is above the jug and showing in the tree.  Duplicate and move to the bottom left behind the deer.

Open element 89, copy and close the original.  Select the frame layer and paste.  Resize 30%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move to the left of the frame and above the mushrooms.

Open element 73, copy and close the original.  Select the blackish spray layer and paste.  Resize 70%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move to the upper left of the frame.

Open element 75, copy and close the original.  Select the blackish spray layer and paste.  Resize 70%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down behind the frame.

Open element 79, copy and close the original.  Select the brick spray layer and paste.  Resize 60%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down so it is in front of the mushrooms on the left.

Open element 19, copy and close the original.  Select the top mushroom layer and paste.  Resize 40%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down so it is in front of the mushrooms on the left.

Open element 17, copy and close the original.  Select the pink tree layer and paste.  Move it up so it is behind the brown tree and drop shadow.

Open wordart 4, copy and close the original.  Select the fire layer and paste.  Resize 60%, sharpen and drop shadow.  Move to the upper left behind the moon and lower the opacity to 70%.

Open element 30, copy and close the original.  Select the brown tree layer and paste.  Resize 50%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move it up so it is on the tree.  See mine for placement.  Here come the tricky part.  I want it so it looks like the snake is wrapped around the tree.  Lower the opacity of the snake to around 40% so you can see the tree.  Using the selection tool, make a selection around the top coil of the snake.  Make sure the selection goes past the tree.  See my screen shot below.  Once you are happy with your selection, right click on the mouse and choose Promote Selections to New layer.  Select the snake layer again and hit delete on your keyboard.  Select none.  Move the promoted layer under the tree and bring the opacity up to 100%.   If you do not like the way the snake looks just undo and repeat the steps above.

Open element 69, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 25%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down so it is in front of the tube's leg.

Open element 52, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 35%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down so the top is over the smaller clay pots.

Open element 76, copy and close the original.  Select the skull layer and paste.  Resize 20%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down so it is in front of the skull

Open element 84, copy and close the original.  Select the tube layer and paste.  Resize 25%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down to the bottom of the tube and behind the skull.

Open element 11, copy and close the original.  Select the flower layer and paste.  Resize 30%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down to the bottom of the book an behind the skull.

Open element 25, copy and close the original.  Select the brick spray layer and paste.  Resize 50%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down to the bottom behind the cat.

Open element 78, copy and close the original.  Select the top layer and paste.  Resize 30%, sharpen and drop shadow. Move down to the bottom right of the brick spray.

Add any other elements you like and make any adjustments to the layers.

Crop away any extra space.  Resize 650 on the longest side, all layers checked.

Add your copyright and name.

If you do not want to animate, hide the white layer and save as png.

Animation:

Animating the tag.  Make sure your tag is saved as you do not want to loose it if psp crashes.

Might want to grab a coffee :)

Open Kiya's animation 1.psd from animation pack 1 in psp.

Select the Group 1  layer of the animation.  Beside the group 1 layer you will see a little white arrow pointing down.  Click on this to collapse the animation.  In the upper right of the layer pallet you will see an icon that looks like a chain link.  Click on this.  You will now notice a chain link on your group 1 layer.  This will lock all the layers so when you need to move it or resize it, all the layers under group 1 will move or resize at the same time.

Standing on group 1, go to edit and copy.  Now back to your tag and paste as a new layer.  Unfortunately, the ani will only paste to the very top.  Click on the little white arrow beside group 1 to collapse it again.  Close off the original animation as we will not need it and do not save.

I want group 1 to be just below the jug layer.  Select group 1, left click your mouse and drag the group layer down the layer pallet until it is below the jug layer.  Or you can go to Layers arrange, Move down and repeat this until it is below the jug layer.

Resize the group by 40%, all layers not checked and mirror.  Image, free rotate to the left by 25 degrees.  Move the ani up so it is behind the tube and just showing above the jar.  Please see mine for placement.

Next step.
Select the little arrow beside group 1.  This will expand the group.
You will see all the numbered layers.  Starting with frame 25, click on the eyeball beside this layer repeat this step for all the layers so only layer 1 is visible.

Open animation shop.
Back to psp.  With only frame 1 of the animation visible, edit, copy special, copy merged.
Back to Animation shop.

Edit, paste as new animation or keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V.

**Back to psp.
Hide Frame 1 by clicking on the eyeball and unhide frame 2 by clicking on the eyeball.  Edit, copy special, copy merged.

Back to Animation Shop.
We need to paste after current frame.  Go to edit, paste after current frame.  Keyboard shortcut  Shift+Ctrl+L**

Repeat from **to** until you have 25 frames in animation shop.  It will tell you on the bottom right corner how many frames you have.  Select the first two frames and delete them.  You should have 23 frames.

Now in Animation shop go to Edit, select all.  I want to slow the animation down.  Go to Animation, Frame properties and on the display time tab change the number to 16.  The higher the number the slower the animation.  Click ok.

Go to file Save as, gif and click next and next until you hit finished.  I use the default settings.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.  I would love to see your results.
